Witsand 101
I relocated to Somerset West at the beginning of 2009. Knowing the cold waters around Cape Town is a pretty poor destination for artificial lure anglers; I had to do some research on places nearby that would possibly yield some bounty.
The Bounce Retrieve
Twitch, bounce, twitch, bounce, twitch, ON!!!
We have found that for targeting kob, this is the most effective retrieve to use. Make no mistake, we have hooked kob on flat-out retrieves whilst specifically targeting leeries, but nothing comes close to the turnover ratio of the “The Bounce Retrieve”.
Henties Bay 2011 – Henties reloaded
After months of agonizing anticipation, the day had finally arrived. I traveled from Cape Town to Cradock the previous day. We agreed to meet up in Cradock at 3 am where we would leave for Henties Bay, with an overnight in Keetmanshoop, Namibia.

The Knock
The “knock” is what we call the unmistakable bite from a kob (not to be confused with a “bump” which generally just describes a bite from a fish). It happens in a heartbeat, one moment you are twitch retrieving your lure and then knock, knock, BOOM!
What’s in Golden Boys fishing bag
I have never been one for the most expensive tackle and have always enjoyed being a middle class fisherman. I would much rather say a few curse words over a broken reel than fall down on my knees in agony over a broken rod tip.
